Productions came to a grinding halt in the weeks following the initial shutdowns in the Washington D.C. and Baltimore areas. The entire Cerebral team vacated the offices on a Friday night, making our farewells as we ran about, piling equipment into cars.
Times of great change can be exhilarating, but a clear feeling of apprehension over the fate of our industry –and the world– hovered in the air. At the time, it was hard to imagine the possibilities remote production might afford us.
With the University of Maryland Global Campus campaign, we proved that despite strict limitations, great things can be accomplished when passionate people come together.
Shooting these spots remotely allowed us to include students and alumni from across the U.S. and abroad, showcasing the wide variety of people who have found success at UMGC.
Our talent welcomed us into their homes via Zoom and introduced us to their families, lending a unique sense of authenticity and approachability to the final piece.
We actively engaged with the students, working together to become a full production crew and inviting them to be a part of the creative process.
The imperfections of smartphone footage and bandwidth became part of the charm of the piece, rather than a drawback.
